Though 13 years is undoubtedly a long time to wait for a game, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 appears to be well worth the wait—a fact that even I, along with many other fans, will attest to. In light of that, these are the 10 aspects of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 that we can’t wait to play when it launches next month.


Rich mythology that frequently bleeds into subsequent stories is abundant in the Warhammer 40,000 setting, with its galaxy-spanning storylines and never-ending wars. With dynamic character dialogues, audio logs, cutscenes, and other elements that further develop Lieutenant Titus and his Ultramarine brethren’s battle against the cosmic Tyranid threat, Space Marine 2 appears to be no different in that sense. I am all for Space Marine 2, because to put it simply, it will fully immerse you in the mythology of the grimdark Warhammer 40,000 universe.


Though co-op was a feature of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine (2011), it was limited to distinct Exterminatus missions, which were more or less a reimagining of the classic horde mode game type. However, Saber Interactive, the game’s creator, has gone above and beyond with the sequel, letting up to three players battle against the Tyranid and Chaos armies in a cooperative campaign that’s full of sugar and fat.


In addition to its delicious main entrée, Space Marine 2 has a third PvE cooperative option called “Operations,” which is a connected three-player co-op game that is closely linked to the main campaign. These Operations provide players a variety of tasks to do and much-needed hints into the story that extend beyond Lieutenant Titus’ personal hardships.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 is undeniably a really appealing game—just take a look at it. Space Marine 2 is a visual showcase with plenty of spectacle, lavishly decorated in state-of-the-art graphics that vividly depict the visceral adventures of the Adeptus Astartes. Hundreds of enemies can be seen, and they are all brutally killed in a fitting manner, while the devastated environments and worlds that are emblematic of the grimdark of the Warhammer 40,000 universe stretch into the distance.


Even while Space Marine 2 is undoubtedly going to be a visually gorgeous genre attempt, players should expect from it more than simply a half-baked experience. The sound design of Space Marine 2, which features a roar of Bolter fire, the squelching of enemy flesh as a Chainsword buzzes through bone and gristle, explosions that rip through the soil and send muck flying into the air, and much more, is also expected to leave a lasting impression. Space Marine 2’s music design more than lives up to its outstanding visuals.


Space Marine 2 has chosen to provide a brand-new cast of really pretty evil guys for the Ultramarines to contend with, doing away with the majority of the Ork-filled cast of villains from the original game. The Tyranids, a huge, swarm-like alien species from beyond the boundaries of the known universe, take the place of the Orks. The Tyranid hive-mind, which is sweeping the cosmos like a plague and killing, infecting, and defiling all races equally, will put even the hardestened Space Marine to the test as they work to stop the infestation. Oh, and the massive, virtually invincible Chaos Marines are also joining the journey. That’s good, then.


In addition to offering players a grandiose tale campaign and a bulky cooperative game called Operations, Space Marine 2 also has three PvP-focused modes in which players assume control of the Ultramarines Chapter and Chaos Marines, respectively. While Capture and Control has you controlling a zone that changes locations during the battle, the winning team is the one that has occupied the zone for the longest. Annihilation is a classic deathmatch type mode where the winning team is the one with the most kills. In the meanwhile, Seize Ground assigns each side three distinct zones to capture and hold on each map.


Players may choose from no less than six distinct classes in Space Marine 2 to join them in their cosmic conflict, regardless of whether they are rooting for the blue people or the Chaos faction. The Assault class presents a role whereby they become the ideal soldier for breaching enemy defenses due to their consistent focus on close-quarters fighting and high damage. As their name implies, the Bulwark is the group’s damage absorber and can employ a massive shield to both absorb damage and defend comrades.


Developer Saber Interactive has promised a plethora of post-release updates and more content, not content to just provide players a substantial narrative campaign and the supplementary “Operations” centered PvE campaign. As Space Marine 2 storms into the future and adds content to its Eternal War PvP and Operations based PvE modes, we can definitely anticipate to have a variety of free new missions, maps, weaponry, and much more. However, the post-release content plan has not yet been announced as of this writing. Go ahead and do it.

The Adeptus Astartes pose the greatest danger to their adversaries, even if the various Space Marine chapters are incredibly disciplined, walking engines of war.
